A group of British women has made history by becoming the first British
all-female team to conquer the South Pole and the first group of women
to go to both Poles.
The team reached the South Pole on Monday 24 January
2000 after walking for 60 days in temperatures as low as - 50 C.
The expedition was undertaken to raise awareness and
funds for Special Olympics. At the same time, the team also collected
meteorological and other data to assist future expeditions and
specialist equipment manufacturers.
The complete story of the expedition is now available in
a book by Caroline Hamilton, South Pole 2000: Five women in search of
an adventure. For more details or to order your copy, click here: <Virgin
