DAYS 12 & 13

SUNDAY 5 AND MONDAY 6 DECEMBER 1999

Position: Lat: 81:81 South Long: 82:066 West

Miles covered: 16

Total miles covered: 119

Air temperature: - 15 C

Conditions: Difficult, visibility very poor

As expected, Sunday was a poor day with awful visibility and they cut it short after 5 miles (Zoe apparently wanted to put her feet up and watch Leeds beat Derby on Sky). Monday was better, with a full day and 11 miles achieved. The ice conditions have become difficult with the surface being very loose, powdery, dry snow which makes progress very slow. They are following a gradual contour loine which reduces the incline but takes them slightly west of south in terms of their compass heading.

They plan a full day on Tuesday, although conditions will not be easy. They now have 492 miles to go!
