Although Thursday was a good day with 12 miles travelled, Friday proved more difficult with the team covering only 9 miles. They are finding that their push to extend their day by one hour every day is causing problems as it means they are now doing their travelling during the Antarctic night (albeit with the sun still up) and, while the difference in the sun's height above the horizon is not that great, this makes a big difference in terms of temperature. They have found that they are burning up too much energy in these colder conditions and rather than waste energy at this stage they have decided to take a half day off to reset their clocks. This is a very sensible decision and one that will reap dividends later on when they really need their energy reserves. They will be back onto an Antarctic 'day' schedule as from Sunday morning.

In general, however, the team remain healthy and happy.
