DAYS 24, 25 & 26

FRIDAY 17, SATURDAY 18 AND SUNDAY 19 DECEMBER 1999

Position: Lat: 83.70 South Long: 83.533 West

Miles covered: 34

Total miles covered: 232

Air temperature:

Conditions: Very cold, wind of 10-12 knots, gusting up to 20 knots from the south east

The team have had a good three days and are all very healthy and still in very good spirits. They had a good day's travel on Friday, covering 12 miles and encountering some small sastrugi along the way. On Saturday they covered another 12 miles with some larger sastrugi. It was very windy all day. They saw a plane. Sunday was a steady plod with 10 miles travelled, once again very cold with a lot of wind from the south east.

Food and fuel status is fine, with in excess of 18 days of both still in hand. They are consuming food at the anticipated rate but fuel is not being used as fast which is heartening from a 'reserve' point of view.

Rosie gave her next in her series of special reports on the subject of 'powering it up'.
